Dealing With Obesity In Cats

Monday 18 May 2009

obese catCats also suffer from problems that result from overweight as much as we humans do.

Unfortunately a large number of people do not realize, that this is beginning to be a common problem among cats and hence do not watch what they feed their cats. [Cat Health Care]

Overweight cats are prone to diabetes, arthritis and hepatic lipidosis. If you thought you were the only one trying to deal with overweight then you better wake up because your cat may be sailing in the same boat. You need to deal with overweight in cats before it gets out of hand.

  • A structured time table is required to ensure your pet cat does not eat all the time. If you are going to feed it three times a day, then spread the right food quantities across the day. If you keep the food bowl full all the time then you better know that you are just encouraging an overweight cat. You have the power to control the amounts of food that they have to eat each day.
  • Measure your cat’s food in terms of how many ounces it contains instead of how many spoons or cups of food you have given it.

Dealing With Hyperactivity In Kittens

Monday 11 May 2009

hyperactivity kittensHaving a little kitten in the house can be handful.

Dealing with all that hyperactivity and trying to save your shoes from being chewed on can leave you quite drained more often than not.

But do not despair because there are a lot of ways to deal with that energetic little ball of fur.

Pat them

Kittens are not only hyperactive but they are also hypersensitive. This means that their feelings are much more attuned than ours.

This gives you an advantage to calm them down, what you need to do is appeal to their very sensitive sense of touch.

By stroking and patting your little kitten, you can make your kitten fall asleep in no time. But make sure the little kitten does not sleep for a long time because cats actually preserve their energy by sleeping.

Get toys for them

Another brilliant way of dealing with your cat’s hyperactivity is to provide them with a lot of toys that they can play with. Most kittens prefer toys that they can chase around and chew on.

Avoiding Cat Bites And Scratches

Friday 10 April 2009

cat bitesCats are much more independent than dogs and they will soon tell you when they want to be left alone.

It is usually better to let your cat initiate any petting and become aware of his gestures that are warning you to stop.

There are various reasons why a cat might bite its owner during petting; it could be that it is injured or ill.

Observe its behavior in case there are other symptoms and gently check for lameness. [Cat Behavior]

The signals your cat gives out are pretty easy to read if you take the time, exaggerated tail movements, muscle tension and the flicking of ears all meant as warnings to stop. A happy cat purrs but a grumpy one does not so take your cue if you want to avoid a nasty scratch.

Just like children, kittens should be given boundaries and discouraged from rough play from an early age. If not a playful kitten will soon become a cat that is a real handful, biting and scratching to its hearts content.

How To Develop Strong Bond With Cats?

Thursday 26 March 2009

catCats are furry friendly pets that are great company. But it’s not instantly that a cat bonds with the owner so well.

It takes a bit of time and careful planning so it can freely come up on your laps and cuddle.

When cats are not comfortable around you, they tend to be aggressive [Cat aggressive behavior] because they are afraid.

You have to show them that you are not out to hurt them but just want companionship.

The bond that is developed between us and our cats is symbiotic if care is taken when developing this relationship. If you are planning to develop a bond with a cat that you have not yet got, then you might as well get baby kittens. There are small and adorable.

They don’t take time in binding with their owners. A kitten needs to be shown love and affection for it to feel more comfortable around you. It will not be difficult to see the cute little thing in your arms.

As time goes on and the kitten grows you will have developed strong bonds between you and your cat. Set aside time to play with your cat.

Ragdoll cat

The rag doll is a friendly little fellow. Come on, even I don’t have to say much about it.

The name speaks for itself. It’s so people loving especially children that give it all the attention it loves.

You have to love the little fellow, it just tries to love you back in every possible way it can. It’s so gentle you would be tempted to pick it up each time you meet it in the hallway.

If you are worried about your carpet then worry no more. It has medium hair, so it sheds off a reasonable amount of fur.
