The main drawback to recognize the disease is the cat does not show any symptoms even after months and years of the disease infection. Once the cat shows the symptoms, it would be too late and the disease will be in high states to control it.

The Feline leukemia virus in cats is compared to the Human Immunodeficiency Viruses (HIV) and also known as ‘cat aids’.

Types of Feline leukemia virus:

Feline leukemia virus -A: This virus is seen in all FeLV infected cats. The virus decreases the immunity system and makes the cat weak and prone to diseases. This virus is known for its immune suppression.

Feline leukemia virus – B: This is the next stage of the FeLV –A virus, formed in the cat’s body when the virus is mixed up with FeLV DNA in the cat’s body. The increase in this virus increases neoplastic diseases in the cat and increases the abnormal tumor and tissue growth.

Feline leukemia virus -C: This is a rare case and sometimes not at all seen; this develops in the cat when mutation of FeLV-A is done. In this case, the cat becomes more anemic and become very dull.

Symptoms of the Feline leukemia virus:

  • Excessive and uncontrollable fevers. Sometimes the fever persists in regular intervals
  • Unnecessary vomiting, even in the mornings with empty stomach
  • Diarrhea persists regularly even after providing the best diet
  • Breathing problem is seen in the normal cat even if the cat did not had working schedules
  • Unexplainable weight loss and becoming anemic

Once these symptoms are seen in the cats, understand that the Feline leukemia is high. These symptoms can indicate dangerous. Remember there is no drug or vaccine to control the spreading of the virus. If recognized in the starting stages, some medicines can give temporary relief but cannot stop the cat from dying.

Vaccines should be given to the cat before it is attacked with the Feline leukemia virus.
