But what about your pets?

Unlike past times, almost every airline today allows pets onboard. But despite that fact, pet relocation is not as simple or easy as it sounds.

It is a difficult and complex journey not just for the pets as they feel great discomfort during traveling but also for you as you have to fulfill all the legal requirements and formalities involved.

So if you are moving overseas and have a pet you don’t want to leave behind, read this two-minute article to find out what you need to know about pet relocation.

Pet Regulation Checklist

Check the rules and regulations of bringing pets into your destination country.

While you will need the conventional papers, which include a certificate of ownership and vaccination certificates, make sure you also obtain any other documents if needed.

Some countries often require additional health inspections and cats to be especially quarantined.

Use the following tips for more help.

Permit

It is highly likely that you will be needed to acquire a permit for your pet. Ask your local veterinarian for the application process.

Tags

Most countries will require a rabies tag for your cat, dog or any other exotic animal. So make sure you have one.

Local ordinances

You must contact the City Clerk in your destination overseas to inquire about the local rules and regulations as well.

Ask any and all questions that cross your mind including information on leash laws, limits on the number of pets per household, licensing rules and any other regulation that might not allow certain animals in a specific neighborhood.

Safety During the Journey

Every member of your family including your pets should be at ease during the long journey overseas.

Make sure you have the following so that your pet travels safely and can be easily found in case he gets separated.

ID tags

It goes without saying that you must have an ID tag on your pet. This means a collar for dogs and cats, leg band for birds and so on.

Details like the pet’s name as well as your name and contact info must be clearly mentioned on the tag.

Microchips

If your pet was brought from a breeder or shelter, it is likely to have a microchip already. Otherwise, you should obtain one to keep track of it at all times.

Pet carriers

Needless to say, you will be required to keep your pet in a pet carrier.

Although people often think a cage makes their pets more terrified, it’s actually the opposite.

Pets feel safe in a cage during traveling.

Pictures

You might have many pictures together but take one especially to use for identification purposes. Make sure your pet is clearly visible so that you may show it your neighbors or the concerned authorities in case your pet gets lost.

International movers help you transport your stuff overseas, but you can also find an international moving company that will help you relocate your pets as well.
