One of the first things on your to do list, after you have adopted a new dog or shifted to a new town, should be to look for a pet motel or dog boarding. You may say that you will never leave your pet at a boarding facility, but you need to be prepared in case an emergency arises and you have to leave your pet some place. In such a condition it would be to your advantage if you already know of a good motel for pets.
A pet motel becomes a necessity if you are planning to go on a vacation with your pet. Your hotel may not welcome the pet and this is where a motel for pets comes to rescue.
Your pet can stay there and the two of you can enjoy a great vacation together. It would be perfect if you could do your research before that and book a motel before you reach your vacation destination, so that you don’t have to waste time looking for one once you are there.
Remember to choose the one nearest to the place where you will be staying.
Here are a few handy tips when looking for a pet motel locally.
Sit down and think about all the questions you would like answered by a pet motel. Write them down so that you don’t forget to ask any of them.
The questions should cover every aspect of your pet’s day to day life. One of the first things you need to know is the hours they operate.
You need to find out about the feeding routine, if the pets are taken out on walks and how many times, if the pets (dogs especially) are allowed to socialize when out, medication procedures and their emergency routines. Just in case your pet has any special needs, find out if the pet motel can meet them.
Look through the local directory or even online directories to make a list of potential pet motels near and around your residence. Call each of them on the phone and ask as many questions as you can. This will help you to narrow down your choices further.
Now make an appointment to tour the facilities that meet your demands. Look around the facility and check factors like cleanliness, the support staff and their behavior with other pets and also the licensing aspect. Also check out the enclosures and see if they are big enough for your pet.
Once you have narrowed your choices further, drop down at the pet motel unannounced. This will help you make sure if they had prepared for your earlier visit to give you a positive impression.
