Dog Illness Symptoms and What Should You Look For

Usually the owners get really attached to their companions and this is why they would do anything to keep their dogs by their side as long as possible. To achieve this they should know about the dog illness symptoms. Naturally all of the illnesses have different symptoms, so you have to keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary.

There are some typical signs of dog illness, and these include the eyes. In case there is any kind of discharge, swelling or redness you should contact your vet immediately. The same thing is true for their nose. If you can see that the dog has a running nose, any discharge or crusting, you should take him to the vet.

The intestinal activity can also show signs of dog illness. In case you observe anything unusual, or blood in the stool, most probably there is some problem.

Odor can also refer to dog illness symptoms. We all know that dogs have a specific odor, but if you notice a foul odor coming from the mouth, ears, skin or any other source, take the pet to the vet.

Sometimes it is enough to notice certain behavioral changes, like fatigue, anxiety, trembling or depression. None of them mean any good.

A healthy dog

You can recognize the signs of dog illness in case you know what is normal for a dog. Normally the body temperature should be between 101 and 102 Fahrenheit and you know there is something wrong if the number of breaths in a minute isn’t between 15 and 20.

The heart rate is supposed to be of 80-120 beats per minute, and if there are more or less beats, it might be one of the dog illness symptoms.

In case of healthy dogs the gums, inside of the lips, tongue and also the inside of the eyelids are pink. Also regarding odor the ears and the mouth should have a clean smell.

Dog allergies

Usually they appear in case of puppies of 1-3 years, but they can also develop later. The most common signs of dog illness include a constant itching. If you see your dog licking, scratching and biting, most probably he has an allergy of some kind. Sometimes allergies are also accompanied by eye and ear infections.

Dog flu

Lyme disease

We have to note that about 95% of the infected dogs show no signs of dog illnesses. One of the common consequences nonetheless is Lyme arthritis that appears about 2-5 months after getting bitten.

Don’t watch out for some particular dog illness symptoms, but look for anything out of the ordinary.
