Many people do not know that dogs can get allergies. In fact it is very common for dogs to suffer from seasonal allergies just like their owners do.
Unfortunately there are also many other things that can be disguised with the symptoms of seasonal allergies, so it is usually a very good idea to take your dog to the vet.
One of my dogs has allergy symptoms the exact time of the year that I do and this is one of the ways I am able to diagnose his allergies.
Dogs will become very itchy when they have allergies oftentimes itching until their fur is gone or thinner and even itching until they’ve begun to bleed.
If your dog is itching and scratching during the hay fever season you can give him Benadryl. A dog can have 20 mg of Benadryl per 20 lbs. My dog weighs 40 lbs so I give him 2 Benadryl pills that are 20 mg each.
Vets will oftentimes give a shot of a steroid usually Prednizone, to help take away the discomfort for the dog. Vets can also prescribe Prednizone pills that you give your dog at home as well.
