Taking Care of Short Haired Dogs

If you have short haired dogs, that doesn’t mean that you don’t have to take care of them. The short hair also has to be cleaned to have a healthy dog and also to make sure that he won’t bring any parasites or bacteria in the house or around the children.

Step one of care for dogs with short hair

The first thing to do is to check the ears. You should be looking for any smells that are out of the ordinary. This could be a symptom of ear infection or mites. In both cases the dog will need the help of a vet.

Short Haired DogsStep two

Cleaning the ear of dogs with short hair is just the same as in case of any other dog. Get some cotton and ear wash and clean the outer part of the ear and the upper part of the inner ear.

Change the cotton from time to time and make sure that you don’t penetrate too deep so that you won’t damage the ear drum.

Step three

In this step you need to comb the short haired dogs starting with their head. Use this activity to check for fleas or ticks or anything else that is harmful for the health of the animal.

In case you find anything, you will need to wash the dog using shampoo that has been specially created for such purposes. If you notice flaking or dry skin, you might need to use a medical shampoo on the short haired dogs.

Step four

After combing you should move on to using the brush. In case of dogs with short hair you can also use the rubber mitt kind of brush that works just as well. When brushing, you shouldn’t forget about the tail and the feet either. In case the dog is spending some time outside, many things could get caught up in these areas.

Step five

Once you are done brushing short haired dogs, move on to washing them. There will be no more loose hair or debris. After shampooing, make sure that you rinse off all the shampoo. In case there is some shampoo left, it could irritate the skin of the animal. The excess water should be removed with the help of absorbent towels.

Step six

Once the dog with short hair is squeaky clean, you can move on to the finishing touch: ‘pedicure’. It is important to take care of the nails of the animals. When cutting them keep in mind that there is a vein in the nail that shouldn’t be damaged. In case something goes wrong you should always have some styptic powder at hand. Once you are done with the entire process for the dog with short hair, you could also spray some dog cologne. He will look and smell amazing, as if he was groomed by a professional.

As you can see, taking care of short haired dogs isn’t as difficult as it may seem at first and you can do everything on your own.
