Dog House Training For Your Pet

If you are going to have a dog inside your house, you will have to ensure that he goes through the proper dog house training.

It may be a bit confusing at first, but soon you will overcome this and in just a few weeks successfully you can do dog house training and be able to enjoy a good relationship with your new puppy.

The best time to begin training your puppy is between 8 and 12 weeks old. In this phase, he is not too young to still need his mother, and old enough to absorb instructions and retain these.

Here are some rules for effective dog house training:

1. The first and most important rule is to have patience and consistency in dog house training. Do not punish him for mistakes or accidents, your puppy will learn to control his bladder and bowel as he gets older.

If you rush into dog house training, this is where problems usually develop. Your puppy will learn in his own time and you will eventually be the proud owner.

2. Remember to praise your puppy and reward him if he does the right thing. Simple methods of reward such as petting him and giving him a dog cracker will let him know he’s on the right track. The more your puppy is rewarded, the faster he will learn.

3. The use of a crate is effective in establishing a play and sleeping area for your puppy. This is not intended to use for punishment, but only for play and sleep.

Your puppy will not pee in these confines as they do not want to soil their bed. In the process of dog house training, you can place your puppy inside the crate whenever he cannot be watched, such as when you are cooking or outside the home.

4. Whenever possible, leave the house using the same door. This will tell your puppy that this is the door he should scratch at or signal when he wants to go outside in the future.

5. Dogs are dependent on routines, so this should be established early on during dog house training. A routine can be incorporated for walking, feeding, sleeping, and play times as well as a location in the house where they should eat or drink.

6. If you catch them urinating or defecating during dog house training, do not scold him because he won’t understand what the scolding is for.

Remember that before your puppy met you, he did the same thing hundreds of times and this was cleaned up by his breeder or previous owner. Simply say “No” with a stern voice, and take him outside to the place where you prefer him to defecate or urinate.

Once he is there, say, “Good boy”. Picking him up will also help to put his tail down, and prevent further urinating.

Dog house training doesn’t have to be complicated or difficult. It provides a lot of time for you to get acquainted with your puppy and bond, but remember to be patient and show lots of love during dog house training.
