Herb Jones
You sir are a good example of poor training.
Any dog can be made aggressive, any dog can be
made gentle. They are simple creatures once
you learn how their minds work. I have taken
a wolf and trained her to where I was not afraid
to have her around children. I have seen a
golden retriever that was trained to be very
threatening and aggressive.
Some people just should not own dogs, these are
the people who want a pet. A dog is a sponge and will basically do what it is trained to do.
If you are not as smart as your dog, which many
are not, then you get dominant troublesome dogs
with no decipline or order in their lives. If your want a pet, get a goldfish, if you want an
extremely loyal companion, educate yourself about dog psychology, dog training, and research
what breed would best fit your wants and needs.

It's not the dog, it's the trainer. Your dog
does what it is trained to do. Whether or not you know it, you are constantly training your dog with your actions, always. They are constantly learning, the training never ends.

As far as the gun comment, you are so very
wrong. I suppose you would have all guns
confiscated so that only the people who are
not honest and don't tell you they have them
will have guns. What do you suppose the guy
that wants to harm someone else would do if
he lost his gun? Would he suddenly decide not
to harm or would he get a knife, or a hammer,
or a rock, or a stick, or his trained killer
dog and do what he was going to do in the first place. You people, sheesh!
I would much rather live in a society where
everyone was armed than one where wimps like
you made the rules. I feel sorry for any dog
that chose you to be it's master.

Why is it that my German Shepherd is one of the most dangerous breeds due to aggression against smaller breeds but She bows submissivly when she is attacked and bit without provocation by my neighbor's Papillon.

The statement "What makes caring for a Doberman pinscher particularly dangerous is when the owners lack guidance" sums up the danger in most dogs. People who are bad owners are far more common than bad dogs.

look people. rottweilers dobermans and pit bulls are dangerous dogs, period. don't give me the old "any dog can be dangerous" BS. yes, that's true; but we're talking about general tendencies across breeds. goldens are gentle--in general--pit bulls are aggressive--in general. that's why people get goldens for their kids, and pit bulls for fighting or intimidating people on the street. i'm just stating the obvious. of course the hard core defenders of dangerous dogs will deny and attack, just like the gun nuts who say that "guns don't kill people, people kill people". again, a truism that totally misses the point.

get a dangerous dog (or perhaps better: a naturally *aggressive* dog) if you want a guard dog; get a gentle dog (a naturally more *passive* dog) if you want a pal that you can trust around strangers.

I got attacked by a german sheppard 6 years ago. Took off my arm. Then I was walking throu my neighborhood and got chased down by a rottwiler. I tried to outrun him but he chewed up my feet till they bled. Just last year, I was trying to kiss a Doberman through the fence but he bit my ear off.

No, but for real... I did get bit by a chihuawa on my ankle one time out of nowhere??? Go figure!!!

huh? No live stock guardian breeds in the most dangerous dog category? Well I gotta give the person credit, they didn't include pit bulls.

But I'm well into the dog world. I volunteer at a shelter and I have my dog into agility. And I have never met a vicious german shepherd, doberman, or rottweiler. Some are a little wary when they first meet me but I never had to worry about them charging at me. My cat even chased a rottie out of are front yard! (It was my neighbors, they had three cats and the dog was taught never to "play" with them.)

List needs revising.

We've been taking care of dogs for 20 years and I find the smaller dogs and "popular" breeds are actually more disobedient and aggressive than the so called danger breeds.Funny how our labrador has growled and nipped at us quite a few times.

Funny how my 120lb Bull mastiff that I raised by from a pup has never growled nor even shown any aggression towards me. Also took me just a little over an hour to teach our Mastiffs the basic dog tricks.

Guard dog breeds need a dominant owner and once once you establish yourself as the alpha they are quite obedient.

Whoever is that person that called a Bull mastiff a dangerous breed is sadly ignorant. Look it up. Bull mastiffs are actually very tolerant of children and rarely bite, even with intruders. Their instinct is to pounce or corner the intruder and wait for their master to assess the situation.

We've taken care of numerous dog breeds but the Bull mastiffs are by far the best we've owned.

Next door to my parents' house lived a male rottweiler who was abused by their neighbor's son. It used to dig under our fence, then come and snuggle with our male staffordshire bull terrier. Doesn't sound aggressive to me!
