Should have added, the rottie bitch I mentioned lived with small birds, both of whom she plays with. And her cats often beat her up.

i also know FIVE rotties, different homes, who are so very neglected it makes me sick, no socialization, beaten, and left in their back yard 24/7 who are DOLLS. They put on a big act to scare you away until you come into their yard, then their tails (or nubs in some cases) loosen, their heads lower and they GRIN their butts off at having a friend.

I am not advocating abuse, neglect, or cruelty in any way, not all dogs come out okay from being abused, many turn severely aggressive from fear and lack of good experiences with people.

You have got to be kidding me about some of your statements on the German Shepherd... I grew up with a GSD who loved everybody and everything, and I am a current owner of one, that is well socialized... He gets bit all the time by little dogs for nothing, and doesn't retaliate just looks at them like "what did it do"... I use to work for an animal shelter for several years, I never had a problems with any GSD, or other large breed, but had problems with little dogs they would bite you faster than any large dog.

How "dangerous" a dog is depends almost entirely on its training and socialization (or lack thereof). But if you must make a list, here's one that actually has scientific basis:

More and more people are turning to pet insurance because in this economy the only other option is euthanization. It's tough to fork out the dough for big vet bills, but our pets are like a member of the family so what are we supposed to do?

Always wanted one when I was a kid. I think the novelty wears off once you're grown-up enough to own your own dog though :)

ANY dog is dangerous if it abused or improperly treated or negligently trained. There are far more responsible owners of your so called "dangerous breeds" than there are serious incidents involving your list.
All pet owners should be properly educated in the handling of their pets. Strong-willed dogs require consistent training. Owners are responsible for their animals. Stop blaming the animals for their idiot owners.
I have owned Rottweilers for years. Ask any of the neighborhood children who have grownup with my dogs -- they are sweet and gentle. I trained them. I am responsible for them. The safety and comfort of my neighbors was as an important factor in my ownership of Rottwielers as the companionship and protection my dogs provided me.
I have encountered many, many well-trained German Shepherds. I have watched them play with smaller dogs.
It really is time to blame incompetent owners and not the dogs.

I have a dog who is a mix but seems to have part German Shepherd and part Doberman and she is probably the most harmless dog in the world :) Funny how that works out.

It's not that working dogs don't make good pets, it's that most dog owners are too LAZY to provide their dogs exercise that is adequate to the dog's size, energy level, and intelligence.
