A perch on the front of a bird box is a welcome mat for predators such as raccoons, snakes, and blue jays. A house mounted on a tree is also dangerous. The materials these boxes are made out of are possibly toxic and not durable enough to provide enough insulation for the birds. The dimensions of the boxes are also incorrect. That being said, the birds are not smart. If you put out a box, alot of times someone will move in. And if you dont mind the possibility of killing the birds you are hoping to help, these boxes are quite cute, but almost to the point of kitschy. If you really want to help out the birds, go to the Audubon website, and learn a little bit about what makes a safe house and what does not.
